\"woman<\/a>What is the unholy trinity? I have heard it identified as Satan, the Anti-Christ and a False Profit; it’s even been used on the popular TV Show Glee (which I have never watched; not finding much positive influence on TV these days, but that’s another article). What I am referring to is much simpler and much closer to home. I am referring to ME, MYSELF and I!<\/p>\n

Our culture has made it very easy to get wrapped up in the unholy trinity, to be consumed with ourselves. Everything points to self-pleasure, self-gain and isolation from our fellow brothers and sisters. Within their first 15-20 years of life of many young people witness what they have come to believe is the way of the world; you have to look out for yourself because no one else will.<\/p>\n

Many young adults I have spoken to recently, in my efforts to try to understand their thought processes and beliefs, simply tell me they only worry about themselves. Many don’t believe in marriage. “It’s pointless” one gentleman told me. But\u00a0I immediately saw into his belief when he said “My parents got married, but they were both\u00a0selfish and got divorced so what’s the point?” His intentions are to just “hook up” with young women; as many as possible with no commitment! Total self-centeredness. But who is to blame?<\/p>\n

Kids are so wrapped up in computer games, X-Box and PlayStation, cell phones, iPods and iPads and they are losing their sense of reality; losing their ability to communicate with others; and most sadly their desire to look outside of themselves and allow their focus to be on the well-being of their friends, their neighbors, their siblings and people in general. The thing is most of these kids cannot purchase these things on their own; their parents have to make the purchases for them. I’m not saying these devices in and of themselves are evil, no more than I would say a gun is evil. It’s when these things are used in a way that is unhealthy; when we become obsessed with them and they consume our time and our thoughts. My children have some of these things but my wife and I are\u00a0serious about controlling the amount of time they may use them or be exposed to them. We want them interacting with us and other human beings.<\/p>\n

Sadly though many adults use these things as replacement “babysitters” for their children’s so they themselves may dive into whatever self-centered activities they have become addicted to.\u00a0 I’m not proud when I say during the first few years of being a parent I see how I fell into this category, but I thank God I have been awakened to the fact not only was it harmful to my children, but it was disconnecting me from my Maker and from my fellow brothers and sisters.<\/p>\n

Proverbs 18:1 says “An unfriendly man pursues selfish ends; he defies all sound judgment.” Also Psalm 119:36 tells us, “Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain.” Scripture is filled with evidence of God’s desire for us to turn our focus outward toward others and not inward to ourselves. This scripture woke me up; Romans 2:8, “But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.” YIKES! Not interested in wrath here; how about you?<\/p>\n

\"Me<\/a>Being self consumed can never bring us long-lasting peace, joy or happiness. The pleasure is short-lived because God did not create us to be alone and to ourselves.\u00a0He created us to live together, in love and support of one another. When we get caught up in the unholy trinity, Me, Myself and I, we are turned from God’s plan for humanity, soon we begin to see the\u00a0chaos we are now seeing unraveling in our country and in the entire world. There is a major lack of care when it comes to the value of life. We can turn this around if we will all commit and choose to pray for the unholy trinity to be lessened in our own lives and ask God to give us a heart of love and compassion for others. We didn’t get this way overnight but we can begin, NOW; TODAY to work on ourselves. If each of us works on becoming more for others and less for ourselves, then we will begin to see a world turning towards and living for the real, true and blessed trinity; The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
